3 things I got wrong
1. I expected that I would get used to living in my tent but I would be looking forward to sleeping inside.
I actually loved living in my tent surrounded by my squad and it was a hard decision to move inside when I did.
2. That I would probably be tired the majority of the time. Okay while this one was still kinda true, I did learn how to rest intentionally and how to get deep, fulfilling rest.
3. That I would immediately be close with a lot of people on my squad. Oof, yeah this one is a tough one. While I had the desire and expectation that we would be super close really fast, that’s sometimes just not how relationships go. During this time though God taught me what a friendship with Him looks like and that I shouldn’t be looking to others for love and approval but to Him.
3 things I got right
1.I thought I was going to be really close to my team. Now while I was right about this one it didn’t come effortlessly. Together my team learned how to fight for relationships with each other and we grew closer by having hard conversations.
2. I would get to do some kind of ministry. I was so thankful that we got to serve in Louisiana and do ministry locally in Gainesville. They were incredible experiences that God used to teach me a lot, but even if we hadn’t gotten to do these things, I would have still experienced ministry. On the race you learn that ministry is just your life and the people around you. You don’t have to look farther than those close to you to see a mission field, and so while we did not get to go to ministry everyday we still did ministry everyday.
3. That I would learn to hear God’s voice. There were a handful of times I could confidently say I heard God before going on the race, but now it is a daily occurrence. He has said some of the sweetest things to me these past 4 months and now I can’t imagine my life without Him speaking into it.
If you are considering doing the race or if you have any questions about it I would be happy to talk with you! Send me a message through the ’contact me’ tab of my blog.
this is so great em!!!
Hey Emily Colleen and I are so excited to know the team is finally in Guatemala! You all have been patiently waiting for God to open this door of ministry. Yet in the meantime the team grew significantly both spiritually and in love for each other! Building healthy relationships can and often is hard. Both parties need to be intentional in nurturing the relationship. The squad has come together in unity! We can’t wait to hear the stories of what God is doing in and through you. Continue to allow God to mold you in the likeness of His Son, Jesus! Proud of you!
