It’s been about three weeks since I have arrived in Guatemala and started ministry. Guatemala is called the “Land of Eternal  Spring” and that perfectly describes the country I get to wake up to every morning. The view from the base shows green mountains covered in trees and the villages of the people who live there.

My team has been assigned to working in three different villages to do house visits, assist in the children’s program run by the local church, and teach English classes.

House visits consist of us visiting homes to build relationships with the people who live there and learn their physical and spiritual needs. This was probably the aspect of ministry that I was most unfamiliar with but it is now one of my favorite parts of ministry. The people share their hearts and hardships with the pandemic. We in turn get to listen and intercede for them.

The kids programs we do involves children from the homes we visit. It’s really sweet to get to form relationships with the entire family. We play games, sing songs, and get a devotional. The majority of those who attend have been out of school since the pandemic started so they enjoy getting to play with other kids again.

Being able to speak English means better and more work opportunities. Despite us all only being high school graduates, our knowledge of the English language and the comprehension of Spanish is enough to teach them what they could need for a job.

God has been teaching me a lot about His love for both myself and others and I am so excited to apply what I have learned to the ministry He has placed me in.
