“Why are you a Christian?”

A beat passes, I make eye contact with Marrisa as my mind races and I open my mouth to talk. Thankfully our ministry host has encouraged us to think about how we would share our testimony, but I still felt slightly overwhelmed as I started to tell a man I met 3 minutes ago my life story. I start speaking about how I grew up in the church but how different my life was when I actually started to follow what  Jesus spoke in the Bible and allowed myself to be moved by my convictions. Still unsure about the beliefs of the man before me, I was reassured by his reactions to what I was saying. My mind is still racing as I am now in turn listening to Marrisa’s response to his question.

We would soon find out that he also was a Christian, and even had some international ministry experience. He began to speak truth over us about how even though we do follow and trust in Jesus, we will still experience bad things. Or how we do not need to have a script of what we will say when talking about the gospel, but if we consistently fill ourselves up with God’s word, it will simply pour out of us when the time comes.

If I am to advocate for my beliefs, I need to be ready to explain why I am a Christian. Now I ask you, what would you say if a random person asked you on the street why you believe what you believe? Do you feel confident you could provide an answer that would have them convinced?

Today we had our first day of evangelism ministry at the Gainesville square. We had originally approached this man to see if we could pray for him because what he was wearing suggested that he was a medical professional. Our time together ended though in him praying for Marrisa and I. It’s funny how God works things out sometimes.
